It’s amazing how far iPhone apps have come in a relevantly short time span. I recently bought an app called “First Touch” which is a football game. A few years ago if I’d bought a game like this It probably would have been a simple design with maybe a button to kick and a series of set targets to hit. This game, however, has a full 3D graphics engine, free flowing game play and very intuitive controls. For 59p I couldn’t believe what you get for your money!
This is just one example of the amazing games that are on the iPhone at the moment and it’s only going to get better. Games which have mass appeal such as Angry Birds will obviously sell the most, but these are relatively simple games which don’t show off the true capabilities of the phone. I’d go as far to say that the graphics on First Touch are far better than the N64 – it’s an old console I know but that’s still pretty impressive for a 59p app on a mobile phone.
I can’t wait to see how the market develops with apps. I wonder what the limit is to graphics and imagination of the developers. I hope programmers continue to use it as a cheap way to get innovative games onto the market – gaming desperately needs a shake up and I really think the iPhone could be the “game changer”.
