Fake Statue Of Liberty Stamp

The US is known for being a very patriotic that’s proud of all its landmarks and history. That’s why it’s such an amusing story that a stamp that was meant to display a picture of the Statue of Liberty actually shows a replica – especially as the replica is from a Las Vegas hotel.

The US postal service has come out and admitted the mistake and said how much they regret it, but they aren’t going to try and remove the stamp from circulation. This is bound to make it a collector’s item, so it could turn out to be a good thing for people who’ve managed to get their hands on one. I’m going to keep an eye on eBay and see how much these sell for in the near future – I’m guessing that many collectors will want to get their hands on them.

It’s actually quite impressive- although not surprising – that anyone actually noticed the difference between the version on the stamp and the replica. Apparently the stamp version has a small rectangle on the crown that isn’t present on the real model. The facial features are also said to be sharper and not true to the original. Even so, it’s a good replica so it’s easy to see how someone who wasn’t an expert in the Statue of Liberty could make the mistake.

The hotel have tried to make the most out of it- as you’d expect – by claiming that they are the first Las Vegas hotel to appear on a postage stamp.
